Any Oppos from Charleston, SC or have visited there? Or from the coastal areas of the Carolinas? I’m looking for suggestions on what to see, do, where to ride, really anything.

Come the end of April, I’ll be setting off on my lovely yellow steed (ON A STEEL HORSE I RIDE... er, ok, it’s half plastic) from Mass. down to Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC for a 2 week vacation. The lady is flying down to meet me (she doesn’t get a lot of time off) and I’ll be motocamping up and back on the bike. I already have tons of info about riding through the Appalachians (my return trip) but on the way down I plan on cutting over to the NC coast and taking that down to Savannah. Looking for anything cool along the way, or even what to avoid (besides Virginia).

Also, while I’ve been to Savannah before, I’ve never been to Charleston so I’m really looking for info on there.

Charleston has some great southern sites and some good food.

My favorite place we have eaten: Tattooed Moose. The duck fat fries are worth however many million calories they are...

A close second was Hominy Grill.

I also liked the Boone Hall plantation a lot, but I am a Southern man and I’m a sucker for anything that is classy, old, and southern.

We frequently downtown in a condo through flipkey (or similar). I would recommend it - normally the price is about the same a hotel, but many of the rentals are in historic buildings which adds to the charm of the trip.

No food or site suggestions, but I have to work in the Low Country pretty often, and there are some pretty decent riding/driving roads outside of the suburban Charleston area. I haven’t been, but my Mother loves Edisto beach, because it’s relatively quiet.

There’s a place in Portland, ME that I’ve been to called Duckfat that does, you guessed it, duckfat fries as well. So. So. So. good.

Thanks for the suggestions! Will definitely add those to the list. I love history and have been through a bunch of other plantations down south.

I’ve been visiting Charleston every year for about 15 years. I actually plan on moving there when I’m finished with school. My first stop there after driving from St. Louis is the Charleston Crab House. I grab a seat on the roof, order a Corona and a soft shell crab sandwich and just relax and soak it in haha

There is so much to do in Charleston that I can’t even tell you one specific thing. Literally park your bike and just get lost in the city. Historic graveyards/churches everywhere and they’re fascinating to walk around. The city is beautiful and I find something new every year. Go to the waterfront and you can see the U.S.S. Yorktown across the bay. That’s also a great way to spend a day. $20 bucks gets you into the carrier and you can also walk around a destroyer and a submarine. It never gets old. Just go explore.

If you get bored of the city and want a quiet beach to go to, head to Edisto Island. It’s about 40 minutes away but it’s an extremely quiet little island with only a handful of “restaurants” and one or two bars. There are two different parks by the island where you can spend a bunch of time for free and you may even be able to camp at one of the parks if I remember correctly.

Sorry for the long post, I have a lot to say about the place! If you have any other questions, let me know and I’ll probably have an answer haha

Sounds like a blast! I’m itching to go a moto-camping roadtrip, been going stircrazy stuck in the office but I have to wait until the winter loosens its grip.

I live in murrells inlet I bit north of Charleston.

I recommend obviously visiting the historical district..it’s absolutely beautiful. Plus maybe if you into history check out some old rice plantations a lot are still intact.

Also if you are into beer..a lot of amazing breweries to visit like Westbrook, Revelry, Freehouse, Coast ...holy city.... So much good craft beer!

As for restaurants to many amazing world class one I wouldn't even know where to begin.

That all sounds pefectly awesome and I think I’ll steal your first stop in Charleston idea, that sounds like the perfect rest stop after riding. Thanks!!!
